I first held a tennis racket in my hand in 1987, when as a six-year-old I spent my summer holidays in Tunisia. That same year I also wore the football shorts of the FC Basel for the first time. Later I went to grammar school in Basel and at 14 I had to decide between tennis and football. At that time I was training with the "Old Boys" Tennis Club under Peter Carter, so it was tennis that won out. In 1997 Swiss Tennis selected me for the "Tennis Etudes" in Biel-Bienne. Over the next four years I trained with Urs Walter while continuing to attend grammar school in Biel-Bienne. But in 2000 I had to make another major decision. This time it was school that took second place, and I switched to a professional career. In 2001 my colleague Yves Allegro persuaded me to move to the "Breakpoint Team" in Halle, Germany. In the years that followed, I was able to continuously improve my ranking and, at the beginning of 2005, I came close to breaking into the top 100. But then, only a couple of months later, I faced a major setback - I was forced to have an operation due to great pain in my shoulder. As a result, I was unable to play in any tournaments for 10 months and dropped back to the 795th ranking. Since my comeback last spring, however, I have already gained a ranking in the top 150 through my strong performances (January 2007).

In den Sommerferien 1987 in Tunesien nahm ich als Sechsjähriger erstmalig ein Racket in die Finger. Im selben Jahr streifte ich mir das Fussball-Dress der FC Basel über. In den folgenden Jahren besuchte ich das Gymnasium in Basel. Mit 14 musste ich mich entscheiden: Tennis oder Fussball. Zu jener Zeit trainierte ich beim TC Old Boys unter Peter Carter. Schliesslich entschied ich mich für die gelbe Filzkugel. 1997 wurde ich von Swiss Tennis für Tennis Etudes in Biel selektioniert. Während der folgenden 4 Jahren trainierte ich unter Urs Walter und besuchte parallel das Gymnasium in Biel. Im 2000 musste ich mich erneut entscheiden. Diesmal blieb die Schule auf der Strecke und ich wechselte ins Profi-Lager über. 2001 überzeugte mich mein Kumpel Yves Allegro, zum Breakpoint Team nach Halle (DE) zu wechseln. In den folgenden Jahren konnte ich mein Ranking kontinuierlich verbessern und war Anfang 2005 nahe dran, die Top 100 Marke zu knacken. Nur ein paar Monate später aber dann ein grosser Rückschlag: starke Schulterschmerzen zwangen mich zu einer Operation. Dadurch konnte ich 10 Monate keine Turniere spielen und fiel bis auf Position 795 zurück. Seit meinem Comeback im Frühling habe ich mich aber mit starken Leistungen bereits in die Top 150 zurückgespielt (Januar 2007).
